APICS: Execution and Control of Operations

This is the fourth in a series of five APICS Certified Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) courses. APICS courses may be taken non-sequentially. Topics in this course include - prioritizing and sequencing work; executing plans and implementing controls; authorizing and reporting activities for push and pull systems; evaluating performance and providing feedback. Successful completion of the APICS-administered exams corresponding to each module will result in CPIM certification (provided that the applicant meets all other certification criteria). In addition to the registration fee, APICS members pay a $175 fee at the first class (non-members pay a $220 fee). (27 hrs) No fee exemption

Escort Vehicle Operator Certification

This eight hour course satisfies the requirements set by the North Carolina Department of Transportation to certify Oversize - Overweight load escort vehicle drivers. ISO 9001:2000 Internal Quality Auditing

This two-day course teaches participants how to set up and conduct an internal audit of the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System. Lean Systems: 5S

Lean Systems: Continuous Flow and Pull

This course will provide students with a foundation in key terms and concepts of pull systems and continuous flow manufacturing. This includes the types and elements of pull systems as well as the four design steps for continuous flow. Students who successfully complete this and the five other courses in the series will be awarded a Lean Systems Practitioner certificate. Lean Systems: Error Proofing and Setup Reduction

Students will learn how to implement error-proofing systems to prevent mistakes from becoming product defects. This is accomplished through a modified Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle and through the development of error-proofing, or Poka Yoke, devices. Additionally, students will learn to reduce the waste that is typically inherent in changeovers from one product or service type to another. Students who successfully complete this and the five other courses in the series will be awarded a Lean Systems Practitioner certificate. Lean Systems: Lean 100

This is an introduction to Lean Systems. Students will learn about the seven wastes, batch size, continuous flow, kanban and pull systems. A factory simulation exercise will illustrate the concepts. Students who successfully complete this and the five other courses in the series will be awarded a Lean Systems Practitioner certificate. The Lean Systems series of courses is comprised of Lean 100, Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Continuous Flow and Push/Pull Systems, Error Proofing and Setup Reduction, and Total Productive Maintenance. Lean Systems: Total Productive Maintenance 

This course will help students ensure that their manufacturing equipment will always be available as planned. Key topics include the Overall Equipment Effectiveness calculation and its application, autonomous maintenance and predictive maintenance. Students who successfully complete this and the five other courses in the series will be awarded a Lean Systems Practitioner certificate. The Lean Systems series of courses is comprised of Lean 100, Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Continuous Flow and Push/Pull Systems, Error Proofing and Setup Reduction, and Total Productive Maintenance. These courses may be taken nonconsecutively. (4 hrs) No fee exemption

Effective value stream mapping is crucial to any lean enterprise. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to map the current and desired future states of key product flows, interpret value stream maps, pinpoint waste and determine where resources may be best applied toward improvement. Students who successfully complete this and the five other courses in the series will be awarded a Lean Systems Practitioner certificate. Six Sigma Green Belt

This is a very extensive, statistics-based quality course that focuses on data-driven process improvement. At a minimum, participants must have a solid understanding of high-school level mathematics. Graduates of this course, under the direction of a Black Belt, will be competent in setting up and implementing data collection, data analysis, and associated six sigma improvement and control activities. Course work will be supplemented with extensive case studies and a class project. The course content and structure is based on the course textbook, The Six Sigma Way Team Fieldbook, by Pande, Neuman and Cavanagh. Green Belt Certifications will be granted for successful completion of this course. (70 hrs) No fee exemption

The Kaizen Event

The Kaizen event is a customizable three- to five-day onsite lab focused upon eliminating waste in production or service processes. This short duration, highly focused, cross-functional project dramatically alters the production or service system for the better.
