Occupational and Public Service Training Programs
The Occupational and Public Service Training department encompasses
Occupational training programs such as Fire and Fire Rescue,
Emergency Services, Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement, Occupational TrainingOccupational Programs provide education and training for individuals to prepare for new or different employment and to upgrade the skills of individuals in their current employment. These opportunities are available through single courses or a series of courses specifically designed for an occupation. A significant number of these courses are offered to meet licensure or certification requirements for employment in careers such as Fire and Fire Rescue, Emergency Services, Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement, Nursing Assistant (NA), BioWork, Teaching (Lateral Entry Bridge Course) and Dental Radiography. Other offerings include programs for the following occupational areas: acting, equine management, hospitality, organic farming, mechanical, plumbing, computer applications, public safety education, electrical, construction, and inspection. Human Resource Development (HRD) ProgramThe Human Resourcess Development (HRD) program provides short-term pre-vocational training and counseling designed to help unemployed and underemployed adults successfully enter the work force with additional education. Decorative Painting Techniques & Restoration Program
The program is grounded in the fundamentals of painting and decorating while encouraging the development of individual styles and techniques. Students learn in a studio and classroom setting augmented with off site practical projects at local historic properties.
Law Enforcement AcademyThe Law Enforcement academy offers regularly scheduled training in topics such as Narcotics, Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Officer Safety, Radar, Non-lethal Weapons, Investigations, Rapid Deployment and Counter Terrorism. Technical and Industrial Training ProgramsTechnical and Industrial Training Programs provide education and training for individuals to prepare for new or different employment in industrial or technically challenging fields, and to upgrade the skills of individuals in their current employment. These opportunities are available through single courses or a series of courses specifically designed for a business, industrial, or technical occupation. Many of these courses are offered as apprenticeships or to meet certification requirements for employment in careers such as Electrical Journeymen, Industrial Blacksmithing, Masonry, basic Welding, Home Inspection, and Refrigeration and CFC Testing. Additional course offerings include: machinist training, supervision, code renewals, and Spanish for the workplace. |

Students in the Decorative Painting Techniques & Restoration Program train in all aspects of surface treatments and decoration. The content of the program deals with traditional, as well as modern materials suitable for both restoration and new decoration of surfaces. Students learn the physical and chemical nature of building materials, the preparation of old and new surfaces, a variety of paint application methods along with techniques such as stenciling, gilding, ornamental plaster repair, marbling, graining, wall glazing and paperhanging. Throughout the year potential career paths are discussed and introduced through field trips and class speakers, as the field is wide and diverse.
