Basic Skills and Human Resources Development
The Basic Skills and Human Resources Development department encompasses Adult Basic Education, GED and Adult High School programs, English as a Second Language, Compensatory Education and the Human Resources Development program. Class sizes are small to foster a productive learning environment and classes are run on an open enrollment basis. Students can join classes to meet their needs.

Adult Basic Education/GED/AHSD
Adult Basic Education (ABE)
Adult Basic Education (ABE) is a program of instruction designed for adults who need to improve their reading, writing, problem solving or computation skills to function more effectively in society, on the job or in the family.
General Educational Development (GED)
The General Education Development (GED) program is designed to prepare adult students to take the GED tests that lead to a high school diploma equivalency.
Adult High School Diploma (AHSD)
The Adult High School Diploma program gives students the opportunity to earn the necessary credits to receive a high school equivalency diploma in conjunction with the local board of education. Classes may also be taken through this program to meet entrance requirements for competitive college curriculum programs.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
ESL is intended to improve the English reading, speaking, and writing skills of non-native students. American culture, history, and life skills are also taught.
Compensatory Education
The Compensatory Education Program is an academic program specifically for adults with mental retardation. Emphasis is placed on helping each student become as independent as possible, primarily by improving academic, social, survival, and independent-living skills.
Human Resources Development (HRD)
The Human Resources Development Program provides short-term pre-vocational training and counseling designed to help unemployed and underemployed adults successfully enter the work force and additional education.
