New ! Lean Systems for Health Services Course

This week-long course focuses on how Lean manufacturing concepts and principles can be applied in the Health Services sector. Health care examples and applications were co-developed with a local health care provider. 

Cost:  $595

New ! Lean 100 Course

Lean 100 is an introduction to Lean Manufacturing. Students will learn about the 7 wastes, batch size, continuous flow, kanban, and pull systems. A factory simulation exercise will illustrate the concepts. A seven hour course conducted in one day.

Lean Manufacturing

This course is designed to give participants a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of the Lean Manufacturing Body of Knowledge. At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to function effectively as a member of a Lean Improvement Project Team (Kaizen Event). The course combines lecture/guided discussion and hands-on factory simulation exercises. Videos on Lean Manufacturing practices (from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers) are incorporated to create an even more dynamic learning environment that makes this course both challenging and fun. This course is designed to equip Lean practitioners with the tools required to support Lean Improvement Projects (Kaizen Events) in their companies, as well as ensure a minimum level of technical competence in the key Lean Manufacturing disciplines.

  • Module 3: Learning to See: Value Stream Mapping – Current State
  • Module 4: Factory Simulation Phase 1 - Initial Configuration and Current State Mapping
  • Module 5: 5S and Pull Systems
  • Module 6: Standardized Work and Continuous Flow Manufacturing
  • Module 7: Learning to See: Value Stream Mapping – Future State
  • Module 8: Factory Simulation Phase 2 and 3 -- Future State VSM.
  • Module 9: Error Proofing and Setup Reduction
  • Module 10: Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and the Shop Floor

Kaizen Event

The Kaizen event is a customizable three- to five-day onsite lab focused upon eliminating waste in production or service processes.

This short duration, highly focused, cross-functional project dramatically alters the production or service system for the better. Depending upon the desired outcome, client organizations may expect significant improvements related to lead time, inventory, work flow and quality.
