September 3, 2013

Trends

One of the important responsibilities of my job is to be in tune with the current and future trends of the workforce in Buncombe and Madison counties.  So let me take a moment of your time and share some good news.

Where are the jobs right now?  The top five industries where jobs are:

  • Healthcare and Social Assistance
  • Retail Trade
  • Government
  • Accommodation and Food Services
  • Administrative and Support and Waste Management and Remediation Services

Where they are not:

  • Utilities
  • Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting
  • Management of Companies and Enterprises
  • Real Estate and Rental and Leasing
  • Educational Services (Private)

The good news is we are expecting to see job growth increase around 8.5% between now and 2020.

The Industries that we are going to see growth in from now till 2020:

  • Offices of Physicians (except Mental Health Specialists)
  • General Medical and Surgical Hospitals (Private)
  • Full-Service Restaurants
  • Department Stores (except Discount Department Stores)
  • New Single-Family Housing Construction (except Operative Builders)

What’s even better news is that A-B Tech/Continuing Education has short-term training to meet these needs of Industry.  Just to name a few:  Office Professional Certification, Electronic Health Record Specialist, Customer Service Academy, Nurse Aide I, Solar Installation, Ophthalmic Medical Assisting, and the list goes on.  Check out our certification page: http://www.abtech.edu/content/Economic-and-Workforce-Development/Continuing-Education/Certification-Opportunities-through-Continuing-Education.
