About the Business & Hospitality Division

"The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles but to irrigate deserts."

C. S. Lewis

The Division of Business and Hospitality Education is dedicated to student success. Programs of study are offered in five academic departments: Administrative/Medical Systems Technologies, Business Administration, Business Computer Technologies, Hospitality Education and Networking Technologies. All degree and certificate programs are specifically designed to provide students with the necessary job skills to be successful in a technically demanding economy.

Teaching is our most important priority. Instructors work in partnership with local employers to evaluate needed job skills and develop curricula that equip students to address these needs in a competitive economy. Student success is measured through job placement and employer feedback. Faculty advisors monitor student progress and assist students toward completion of their academic goals. Many of our programs of study offer students the opportunity to work with local employers in a cooperative educational experience. Also, we have a variety of award-winning student clubs that participate in challenging state and regional competitions.

Construction is under way for a new Hospitality Center to be located near the historic Fernihurst mansion. This 39,000 square foot facility will house our Mountain Tech Lodge, several kitchens and dining areas, classrooms and computer labs, and a demonstration hall. In addition to these new facilities, we will also begin restoration of the Fernihurst mansion and renovation of the Birch building. Our faculty and staff are working closely with two architectural teams to maximize the potential of these projects.

As we expand, our educational goal remains the same--equip students with the requisite skills to be successful in the free enterprise system. Graduates of this Division typically require minimal on-the-job training.  They exemplify a positive work ethic and they assume individual responsibility. Our alumni are employed in every sector of the local economy as chefs, managers, administrative assistants, computer programmers, network administrators, real estate agents, bankers, accountants, hoteliers, medical coders and medical transcriptionists. Their contributions to the community are invaluable.

I invite you to visit our Division and talk to our faculty about the wonderful educational opportunities that await you. Day and evening classes are available for most programs. If you're interested in an Associate degree, a diploma, or a certificate in any one of our rewarding programs, please contact me.
