Software Used in BCT Course
Software for each of our courses is available in the lab for the specific course, however, if you are interested in having the same software at home, you may consider the software below. In general, the following software will be used in all our degree programs:
- Windows XP Professional
- Internet Explorer 7.0 and/or Firefox 3.0
- Microsoft Office 2007

Computer Information Technology
MSDN Software The Business Computer Technologies Department is a member of the MSDN Academic Alliance program. You will need to check with your instructor to enroll you as a user. Access to the software available for students can be located at MSDN AA Software Purchase. |
Digital Media Technologies
The Digital Media program relies heavily on a number of different applications and software suites. The following software applications are available in the Digital Media classrooms (Balsam 104/115) as well as the Balsam 003 lab.
- Microsoft Office Professional 2007
- Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium - includes Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver. NOTE: The Adobe CS4 Suite has now shipped, so you may have to purchase that instead. Although the software is different, many of the same skills apply.
- Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium - includes Premiere Pro, After Effects, Encore, Audition/Soundbooth
- Audacity (open-source)
- Blender 3D (open-source)
- Google Sketchup and Google Earth (both free)
- Other applications may be used as needed in select courses.
Web Technologies
- Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium - includes Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, Contribute
- XAMPP - Open-source software. Includes Apache Web Server, MySQL, php, phpMyAdmin, cgi
- Java SDK - Open-source software
- Uniform Server 3.5 - Open-source software. Includes PHP, MySQL, Apache Web Server
