Creative Non-Fiction Workshop

While most fledgling writers wish to be the greatest novelists and poets in the world, it's non-fiction that offers the most work. Here's a chance to explore working in non-fiction for fun and self-satisfaction. We'll explore the world of newspapers, entertainment weeklies, and magazines while dealing with writing news, biographies, essays, vocational subjects, family histories, journals, blogs, and press releases that might even be read by a local newspaper's events editor. We'll talk about 'the hook,' that necessary turn of phrase that catches the reader in mid-sentence, so they're forced to read, at least to the end of the first line. Peter Loewer, Instructor. Creative Writing, Beginning

This six week workshop will give you the opportunity to explore the art of creative writing. Emphasis will be placed on the craft of writing poetry with investigation into poetic forms. Each session will include in-class writing exercises that free your imagination and allow you to write in new ways. Critique Writing Workshop

This workshop is designed for aspiring authors who have one or more unpublished short-stories or novels and want to have them critiqued and made sellable, if possible. The emphasis of this workshop will be on analyzing and improving the first 10 pages of each of the works to be shared by the student. Because of time limitations, class participants can only bring to the critique workshop a maximum of two stories. Each story will be read in class and constructive criticism will be provided by all class participants on how to improve it. Crocheting, Beginning I

This course is an introduction to basic crochet stitches: chain, slip, single, double, half double, and treble. Students will learn shaping of bags, hats, granny squares and flowers. More intricate stitches such as shells, lace and decorative edging will be introduced. Students will learn how to read patterns and stitch diagrams. Notary Public Education, Electronic (e-Notary)

This course provides instruction to individuals who want to become commissioned as an electronic notary. Topics include legal, ethical and procedural requirements of Notary Act. Upon completion of this course with a passing exam grade of 80%, a person is eligible to make application with the NC Secretary of State office for E-Notary.
