Procedures for Obtaining Books on Tape

Students who need textbooks on tape are REQUIRED to follow these procedures in procuring needed texts.

  1. Contact and join Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic (1-800-221-4792 or www.rfbd.org). Typically, you need to allow one month for this process.

  2. Check with RFBD to see if they have the texts that you need. It is best to do this at least 6 weeks prior to the semester starting. (The Disability Services Office can assist in early registration in order for you to find out the texts that you will need.)

  3. If there are texts that RFBD does not have taped or e-texted, they will possibly be able to tape/e-text if ordered in a timely manner. If RFBD does agree to tape/e-text, contact the Disability Services Office to inform them of this process. If RFBD is not able to tape or e-text, contact the Disability Services Office immediately to assure your obtaining taped texts. Provide the DS Office with exactly what texts you need to be taped (title, author, edition, date published, publisher, and ISBN#). Allow the DS Office at least two weeks from the date that you give this information, in order that we may locate a reader and begin taping.

  4. At that point, taped texts may be picked up and dropped off at the Azalea Building from the desk in the lobby.

  5. Each semester, set up an appointment to meet with the Disability Services Coordinator by the third week into the semester. That way, you can plan for the classes for the following semester. You can obtain the name of the texts that you will need from the bookstore in the Coman Building. You can then make arrangements for obtaining tapes from RFBD.
