Accommodations Process
- Complete the standard AB Tech application form and return it
to the Admissions Office.
- Send a copy of your current high school transcript to the
Admissions Office. Send a copy of your final high school
transcript as soon as it is available.
- Students may be referred to the Disability Services Office
by high school counselors/officials, community agencies,
parents, Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College faculty
or staff, or they may self-refer.
- If a student chooses to receive services from the Disability
Services Office, they are asked to:
- Fill out a
Request for Services
Form
- Provide documentation of their disability, i.e. a
psycho-educational evaluation, diagnostic records from
service providers such as Services for the Blind,
Vocational Rehabilitation, School for the Deaf, or
appropriate records from your physician. The disclosure of
this information is voluntary and is not used for admission
purposes.
- Students need to call the Disability Services Office at
828-254-1921, ext. 141, ext 7586, or ext. 7581 to set up testing with accommodations if
this is needed. Students with documented learning disabilities,
impaired vision or hearing, or other physical disabilities may
benefit from this accommodation. Testing accommodations may
include extended time, test on tape, test in large print format
or services of a sign language interpreter. The accommodation is
based on the specific needs of the individual.
- Once a Request for Services form and documentation are
received, the student and the Disability Services
Coordinator/Specialist will meet to determine necessary accommodations
and to initiate their academic program.
- The Disability Services staff prepares the
"Accommodation Checklist" or "purple sheet" for the student's
faculty members each semester outlining accommodations to which
the student is entitled.
- Student must pick up this accommodations letter from the
Disability Services office in the K. Ray Bailey Student Services Center and deliver to instructors.
- The Disability Services staff is available for faculty
consultation and meetings with students and faculty upon
request.
