- Academic Competitiveness Grant
- A Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant is a grant for undergraduates from the
government that does not have to be repaid by the student. Students
must have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study as
established by the U.S. Secretary of Education. First-year
students must not have been previously enrolled in a program of
undergraduate education and must have graduated from high school after
January 1, 2006. Second-year students must have graduated from
high school after January 1, 2005, and have at least a cumulative 3.0
GPA during their first year of college. To apply for
an Academic Competitiveness Grant, students need to complete the
FAFSA. Up to $750 will be
awarded to eligible first-year students, and up to $1,300 for
second-year students.
- Education Access Rewards North Carolina Scholars Fund (EARN)
- EARN was established by the 2007 North Carolina General Assembly to
provide grants to eligible students to enable them to obtain an
education beyond the high school level at community colleges and public
universities in North Carolina without incurring student loans during
the first two years of their postsecondary education. The maximum
grant for which a student is eligible is $2,000 per academic year and
will end after the Fall 2009 semester. The
EARN grant plus other financial aid cannot exceed the cost of attendance
established by each college or university. The student must
qualify as a legal resident of North Carolina and the United States and
must qualify as a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes.
The student must enroll full-time for the first time, exclusive of any
college credits earned while in high school, at an eligible North
Carolina college or university within seven months of graduation from a
North Carolina high school or home school or receipt of a GED from a
North Carolina institution. The student must be classified as
"dependent" for Federal Title IV programs or is a ward or dependent of
the court. The student must demonstrate total family income not
exceeding 200% of the applicable federal poverty guideline. The
student must meet all other eligibility requirements for the federal
Pell Grant. In order to retain eligibility for a grant for a
second year, the student must meet the satisfactory academic progress
standards established by the eligible college or university in which the
student is enrolled. The student may not receive a grant through
this program for more than the equivalent of two academic years.
- Federal Pell Grant
- A Federal Pell Grant is a grant for undergraduates from the
government that does not have to be repaid by the student. To apply for
a Pell Grant, students need to complete the
FAFSA. Awards range from $890-$4,731
per academic year. The amount of awards will be determined upon FAFSA
results, cost of attendance, and enrollment status.
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
- The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is a
grant from the government for undergraduate students with exceptional financial
need who are enrolled at least half-time. To apply for FSEOG, students need to complete the
FAFSA. Awards range from
$100-$4,000
per year depending on federal allocation. Priority is given to students
who apply by March 1.
- North Carolina Education Lottery Scholarship
- The North Carolina Education Lottery Scholarship is available for students
who 1) are North Carolina residents for tuition purposes 2) meet all
eligibility requirements for a Federal Pell grant, except the Expected
Family Contribution (EFC) requirement and 3) are enrolled in at least 6
credit hours per semester as an undergraduate student in a degree,
certificate or diploma program at an eligible North Carolina
post-secondary institution. Students who have already earned a
baccalaureate (four-year) college degree are not eligible. Students must
also meet the Satisfactory Academic
Progress (SAP) requirements of the institution they attend. Funds
are not available for the summer semester. Award amounts range from
$100-$2,500 for the academic year. Applicants must complete the
FAFSA to be qualified for
this need based financial assistance.
- North Carolina Community College Grant for Less Than Half-Time Students
- The North Carolina Community College Grant for Less Than
Half-Time Students is available for students enrolled in five or less credit
hours. All certificate, diploma and associate degree students must
complete the FAFSA to be qualified for
this need based financial assistance. Students enrolled in certificate
programs that are ineligible for federal student assistance may qualify for
these funds. The Student Expected Family Contribution (EFC) must be
from 801 through 4000. Qualified students enrolled less than half time
shall be eligible for $30 per semester hour up to a maximum of $150.
Qualified students in programs that are ineligible for federal student
assistance shall be eligible for $30 per semester hour up to a maximum of
$150.
- North Carolina Community College Grant
- The North Carolina Community College Grant is a grant
offered by the state to residents of North Carolina. All students who
complete the FAFSA
are screened for eligibility. Awards range
from $100-$900 per academic year. Award amounts are determined by the
state based upon FAFSA results and enrollment status. Students must be
enrolled at least half-time, a N.C. resident, and must not have a baccalaureate
degree.
- North Carolina Student Incentive Grant
- The North Carolina Student Incentive Grant is a grant offered
by the state to North Carolina residents with the greatest financial need.
All students who complete the FAFSA are screened for eligibility.
Awards are $700 per academic year. Students must be enrolled full-time.
Deadline is March 15 of each year.
